The first and most important thing that should be said about the Kindle Fire is that this is not an "iPad-killer." It is not designed to be. I have seen so many articles and comments comparing this to the iPad, and surveys where people are asked if they will be buying a Kindle Fire over an iPad this Christmas. If you are expecting an iPad, or even a tablet, you will be disappointed. The main purpose of this device is to deliver Amazon content to you more effectively. It is designed for consumption, not creation. That is the reason it is so cheap and why Amazon is taking a loss on it. They are hoping to make up for that loss through sales of videos, music, books, and apps through Amazon's Web Services. You can also use it to view your own movies and media, but will find that it is more limited in that way than a regular tablet. Personally, as someone who has ordered several rentals from Amazon Video, and had to contact customer support for every single one of them due to... Read more

I picked mine up today at Best Buy. At home I plugged it in and set up the WIFI and my Amazon account and it immediately told me that an update was downloading. After about 10 to 12 minutes it rebooted and started working. I own an iPhone, iPad 2, HP Touchpad and a Kindle Keyboard version. This device compares with the Ipad. The reviews that blast the Kindle Fire as being no good are just not true. I am a retired CEO and computer Guru and have a great WIFI set up in my home. Here is my quick and dirty review:

WIFI fast and easy to set up and use

Keyboard types great, much better than the HP Touchpad and as good if not better than the iPad.

Display high resolution comparable to the iPad 2

The device downloaded my 100 books in minutes. Most books downloaded to the device in 3 to 4 seconds. A couple of large books took 5 seconds and I am talking about books with 800 pages!

Web browsing is extremely fast. I loaded up a dozen... Read more

As a long-time Kindle fan I was eager to get my hands on a Fire. For the most part I've found that it does what I wanted it to, which is be the one device I can take with me anywhere. There are some great features; the reader app is excellent (though not without flaws), the app store experience is terrific, videos are fantastic, and the device is quick and for the most part dead-simple to use, all thanks to the services Amazon provides. And of course the extras that come with Prime membership really make it a real value - I won't be cancelling my Netflix streaming account just yet (watching Netflix on the Fire works very well) but I imagine within a year Amazon's free streaming video catalog will be just as good as Netflix. The free "lending library" book every month really is the icing on the cake though, and makes Prime membership a no-brainer. The hardware itself is solid and has a quality feel, it's just the right size for one-handed use, and the screen is fantastic (for an LCD... Read more

I ordered this product to see what android was like before I invested in a phone with the android OS. I was pleased when the product arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. I've heard that people were having issues connecting to the android market but I didn't have any problems at all. I downloaded a few apps already. I was able to connect to my home network and surf the web in less than 2 minutes. Android takes a bit of getting used to if you are like me and more familiar with an iphone. The only complaints I have are the RAM is a bit on the low side. A way to help that problem is downloading an app killer from the market to quit the apps that are running in the background. The more apps that are running in the background the slower the device becomes. Also, the touch screen isn't quite as good as I'd like but the device is all in all pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great performance for the money, and Android market!, August 18, 2010
This review is from: 7 Touch Tablet Internet Media Player 2Gb Google Android Os - ROCKCHIP CPU (Personal Computers)
Having compared and read many online forums regarding the new slew of Android MIDs, I purchased both the Rockchip CPU unit here, and the VIA CPU unit from another seller.

The Rockchip runs circles around all the others out there! It can play up to 720P HD video and almost any file type. The unit even features full android market app link, to allow access to upwards of 50k android applications

its wifi works great and the new aluminum housing keeps it running cool compared to the VIA unit

4.0 out of 5 stars A very nice Android device for the price!, September 18, 2010

For a no name brand Android device, this isn't bad at all!! The Rocketchip processor is speedy, the memory is a little on the slow side, especially when running multiple apps in the background, but all in all, it's a great product for doing mostly multimedia stuff. I connected to my wifi network in less than a minute, and I'm already downloading multiple apps from the Android Marketplace!

And the delivery was pretty speedy. I ordered this device on Sept 14, and it arrived 4 days later.

The only things I would change about this device are:

-Increase the memory. the more memory, the faster.
-G-sensor; it could stand to be a little faster when rotating the screen
-Android 1.5; It's not bad, but could be better, especially with 2.1 and higher that's out for mobile phones.

Other than that, the device is awesome!!

This review is from: Kindle Fire Lightweight MicroShell Folio Cover by Marware, Black (Accessory)
I am a little surprised by the reviews. When I read them yesterday, I was ready to return my case when it arrived today.

I bought this because I wanted the lightest case possible that would provide protection. It is very light. As the product description explains, the case is polycarbonate (an impact and scratch resistant PLASTIC) which has been rubberized on the outside, and the cover is a soft fabric (rubberized with a felt layer on the inside. Yes, the elastic strap is glued, but so what? Glue is a good thing.

It feels "cheap" because it is very light (so light I thought the package was empty). According to my postage scale, it weighs a tad over 3 ozs. The stand does not stay in place unless it is weighted with, of all things, a Kindle Fire inserted into it. Then it works perfectly.

It is exactly as advertised: a very light, form-fitting case that offers good protection for the device with a simple display stand. Nothing fancy. Certainly doesn't... Read more

Just a basic look at the case, so you know exactly what it is you're getting into.

Also, I didn't talk about the inside of the flap at all. It's felty, so it kind of doubles as a screen cleaner as well. I'm kind of a spaz about finger smudges, but they mysteriously go away due to the inside of the cover flap.

4.0 out of 5 stars I actually like this case!, November 16, 2011
    Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I am puzzled with all the bad reviews for this case. I was expecting something terrible to show up when I saw the reviews start popping up yesterday. The case is basically a plastic shell on the outside for the back, and a thin synthetic type material for the front, very similar (but thinner) to Apple's smartcover for iPad 2. The device fits inside the plastic shell perfectly. There is no room for it to move around at all.

The plastic part has a elastic band on the bank which can be used to insert your hand and hold the device when reading on it, or it can be brought to the front to securely close the front flap on the case. Overall it is a slim profile case that adds only marginal bulk to the device. The front flap has in inner velvet lining which comes in contact with the screen and keeps is safe.

Parts that could have been better - the front flap is slim, but a little too thin. I'm sure it will protect the device adequately, but it feels lacking in terms of... Read more
